Volunteers! We Need You to End our School Year on a High Note! Dear Band Families, We have two upcoming events in the second week of May that provide your last opportunities in this school year to volunteer! You can click HERE to access both sign-ups. Wednesday, May 8: CoffeeHouse Fundraiser: Our first annual CoffeeHouse is quickly approaching! Great music, coffee, desserts, and conversation! But our first CoffeeHouse event can't be a success without YOU! Volunteers are needed to man the admission table, sell raffle tickets, supervise the silent auction table, set up and clean up our coffee and dessert table, and sell coffee, drinks, desserts and candy. Friday, May 10: Band Banquet Our band year culminates in a banquet, awards presentation, and an after-party for the students. Volunteers are needed to man the check-in table, set up, serve, clean up, and chaperone the students at the after-party in the cafeteria. Not only do we need volunteers at the CoffeeHouse, we need YOU to attend! Our goal is to make this fun event one of our main fundraisers each year. United Sound is a nationwide organization dedicated to sharing the ability to participate in instrumental music with special needs students who don't usually get the opportunity to do so in the traditional setting. These students are taught by peer mentors and in a weekly after school meeting, with the opportunity to perform with the marching band in the fall. We need peer mentors! Another Successful Kroger Donation Days Last weekend, our percussionists and student leaders participated in two days of drumming up money at our Centennial Kroger, raising well over $1000! The Tara Winds Scholarship Fund awards scholarships for students to use towards a summer music opportunity, and scholarships to two graduating seniors who plan on majoring in music. This year's event will feature classes by Quintasonic Brass, concerts by the Georgia Brass Band, and recitals and masterclasses with KSU’s talented brass faculty. The day is packed full of fun, and it will feature a closing concert in collaboration with participants and guest artists. Whether you are an aspiring middle school brass player, a high school player, or a lover of brass of any age, this day will have something for you! We will have activities that will be suited to all age ranges. No matter your age and experience level, you will have a great time playing and learning from KSU’s outstanding faculty and our guest ensembles. Orlando Universal Trip – Next Week! If you are signed up to participate in the Orlando Universal trip (leaving at 9pm on Thursday, 3/7 and returning around 11pm on Sunday, 3/10), you will receive a separate email this week with details about our schedule, lodging, packing list, etc. Stay tuned! Audition Day: On March 26th, after school, all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will audition for our panel of judges for ensemble placement for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a required and graded assessment. More information will be shared soon. If you have an immovable conflict, please contact Mr. Reid and Mr. Ehrlich asap. Chop Sessions: Chop sessions are open to any student who is interested in learning about the fundamentals of percussion. No percussion experience is required, and sessions are open to all eighth graders – join in as soon as you can arrive! Chop Sessions are held most Tuesdays from 4-6pm – check the band schedule for exact dates. Jazz Band: Jazz Band rehearsals are held on Thursdays, 3:45-5:15. There is an $80 participation fee. Everyone is welcome to participate! Please speak to the Directors if you are interested. Lessons: We have many students taking lessons at Centennial during the school day with our private teachers. Now is time to consider lessons. Almost every student that was accepted to District Honor Band or All State takes private lessons. Please email Mr. Ehrlich if you are interested in pursuing this opportunity and he will set you up with a teacher. WINTERGUARD: CHS Winterguard excels in new division! Congratulations to our Winterguard that placed second in their division last Saturday at East Coweta HS. This was our guard’s first performance in the Scholastic Regional A Division.
