“THE CONQUEST” MARCHING BAND COMPETITION On Saturday the Mighty Marching Knights competed at Allatoona HS’s “The Conquest” Marching Band Competition. We are extremely proud of our Band for placing FIRST in the AAA division with a Superior overall rating and Best in Music! What a perfect way to cap off a great marching season! Many thanks to the parents who volunteered by giving their all late into the night! VALUABLE VOLUNTEERS! The CHS band program thrives due to the support of our volunteers! We are so grateful to those who volunteer in many different ways, whether it is at marching band events, assisting in the band room or performing administrative duties from home. CENTENNIAL DRUM LINE KICKS OFF KIMBERLY-CLARK UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN On Monday, September 25th, the Centennial drum line proudly represented the high school at the Kimberly-Clark United Way Campaign kick-off. These talented percussionists displayed their drumming skills to the delight of Kimberly-Clark employees! Many thanks to the parents and staff who assisted the students. CHS NATIONAL MERIT SEMI-FINALISTS Congratulations to this year's CHS National Merit Semi-Finalists: Andrew Duffy, Chloe LeCates, Kayley Olewicz, Anise Overton and Emma Sweigert! We are so proud to announce that four out of the five (Andrew, Chloe, Kayley and Anise) are marching band students! METROPOLITAN ATLANTA YOUTH WIND ENSEMBLE Congratulations to French Horn player Jonah Bergman for his acceptance into the Metropolitan Atlanta Youth Wind Ensemble! He was accepted after a very competitive audition process. CONCERT BAND CONCERT BAND ATTIRE The Cluster Concert is quickly approaching on November 7th, so make sure your concert attire fits properly. If you simply need tuxedo alterations and purchased your tux prior to last school year (2016/17), Savvy Formalwear at North Point Mall will do this free of charge. If you purchased your tux last school year through Tuxedo Warehouse and need alterations or would like to use their trade-in program, please click here. If you were fitted this year for a new tux, don't forget to pick it up at Tuxedo Warehouse before November 7th. Click here for address, phone number and other details. Our band directors have decided that students will no longer wear cummerbunds, and will now wear black bow ties rather than blue ones. The band will provide one new black bow tie for each student free of charge. If you were fitted in September for a dress, see Mr. Ehrlich to pick it up. Note: Payment is due before he will give it to you. Pay for the dress either on this website (look for the Concert Dress under new forms on My Account/Forms tab) or send in a check/cash to the Dropbox by Mr. Reid's office. Checks should be made out to CHS Band Boosters. Questions: Contact Christy Lawrence CONCERT BAND FEES: FULL PAYMENT IS DUE NOW! All current Marching Band families have accounts and can login to the same account to pay their Concert Band Fees. $100 Concert Band fees are due now and can be paid by clicking on My Account/Forms on the toolbar above. Then scroll down to New Forms to see the concert fees. Some students submitted their Concert Band forms, so if you do not see this form under New Forms, then click on My Account/Previous Purchases. Click on the order number that has a balance due. If you previously made a partial payment of $50, the remaining $50 is due now! If you have not yet made any payments, please pay the full $100 at this time. These fees are used to fund special instructors and clinicians who are brought in to work with each Band and instrument section in preparation for LGPE. Fees will also be used to purchase music, instruments, instrument accessories and electronic equipment that are needed to make the different ensembles within the Band program function. Concert Band fees are not included in Marching Band Fees! Please pay these fees to support our fantastic Band program! NOVEMBER 7TH: CENTENNIAL BAND CLUSTER CONCERT On Tuesday, November 7th, please join us for this year’s Cluster Concert at 7 p.m. in the Centennial gym. This concert is an annual tradition when all Centennial concert band students perform with both Holcomb Bridge and Haynes Bridge Middle Schools band students. The theme is "Disney"! This is always a wonderful union of all three schools! Centennial students should report to the band room at 6:30 p.m. dressed in concert attire. Band Spirit Wear will be for sale (“Cash & Carry”) at a table on the top level of the gym. FULTON COUNTY HONOR BAND INFORMATION The deadline to sign up to audition for this year’s Fulton County Honor Band has passed. For those students who are auditioning, please realize that the auditions will be on November 7th at Riverwood HS (5900 Raider Drive, NW, Sandy Springs, 30328). Students should head immediately to Riverwood once school ends that day for a quick audition and then head back to Centennial for the Cluster Concert. The audition will consist of scales and sight reading. If you have questions regarding the audition, contact Mr. Reid or Mr. Ehrlich. The actual honor band event will take place at Centennial with rehearsals on Monday, November 13th, from 6 – 9 p.m., and on Tuesday, November 14th, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. We encourage all band supporters to attend the concert that Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. NOVEMBER 10TH: BROOKDALE HISTORIC ROSWELL SENIOR LIVING CENTER On November 10th the Wind Ensemble will perform at the Brookdale Historic Roswell Senior Living Center in honor of Veteran’s Day. These students will ride buses to and from the senior center. The time frame is as follows: expected departure 9 a.m., perform at 10 a.m., back at school around 11:15 a.m. Students should wear their tuxedos or concert dresses to school that morning and can pack a change of clothes for the rest of the school day. ATLANTA WIND SYMPHONY CONCERT On December 9th at 7:30 p.m., the Atlanta Wind Symphony will hold their holiday concert in the Centennial auditorium. Centennial's very own Associate Band Director Tyler Ehrlich will be conducting, as well as Dr. David Kehler who is Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Kennesaw State University. One piece that will be performed is The Eighth Candle which Mr. Ehrlich will also conduct with the Centennial Wind Ensemble at its winter concert. Centennial band students that attend this concert will be able to replace their lowest participation/preparation grade with a 100! FABULOUS FALL CONCERTS On Thursday, October 5th, each concert band performed its Fall Concert during scheduled class times in the auditorium. All parents and students who attended were thoroughly entertained with fabulous music. Videos for Chamber Winds/2nd Period and Wind Ensemble/4th Period are now under the About Us tab. COPY PARENT VOLUNTEER NEEDED Mr. Reid and Mr. Ehrlich are looking for a concert band parent who is interested in helping to make copies of music. There will be no need to commit to a set weekly time. The schedule can be flexible. There will probably be pockets of time with more to do (right after concerts, etc.), and then pockets of time with nothing. The directors will teach you how to use the copier/scanner. If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact either Mr. Reid or Mr. Ehrlich. Thank you! MARCHING BAND FOOTBALL SEASON CONTINUES… KNIGHTS PROCEED TO THE PLAYOFFS! After the victorious game over Pope HS, the Centennial Knights football team has ended the regular season with a 7 – 3 winning record. Now the team and Band will move on to the first playoff game on November 10th at home in the Fortress! Go Knights! Volunteers needed for this game! To celebrate another great marching band season, marching band students will be treated to an end of season party at Dave and Buster's (6500 North Point Pkwy.) on Friday (11/3) from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Students must provide their own transportation to and from the event. Food, drinks and a $20 game card will be provided to each student courtesy of the Band Boosters. Students can pre-order extra game cards ($20 value) for only $10. Tuesday (10/31) is the firm deadline to order. You can do so by enclosing the money in an envelope labeled "Dave and Buster's Game Card" and student's name. Either give this envelope to one of the band directors or put it in the drop box outside Mr. Reid's office. You will not be able to purchase a discounted card at the party!!! NOVEMBER 11TH: ATLANTA VETERANS DAY PARADE The marching band will march in this parade to represent CHS. Students should report to CHS at 7:30 a.m. dressed in their black band shirt, black marching shorts, long black socks and marching shoes. The approximate dismissal time will be 2 p.m., but this is only a guess! We will send out a Remind that day. Students and volunteers will ride buses from school to the parade assembly area and then back again to school. Food will not be provided. Pack a snack and water bottle for the bus! Water coolers will be available to refill bottles. The parade will start at 11:11 a.m. Spectators can click here for a parade route map, parking recommendations and other information. Congratulations to the CHS football team on another exciting win over Dunwoody! Friday was an extra special night as we honored our marching band Seniors for Senior Knight, and the Seniors treated the rest of the band to a celebration after the game in the band room! We will miss all of you next year in marching band but wish you all the best in your future endeavors! The band also thrilled the crowd with another excellent performance of Havana Knights! Since report time is not until 12:30, students should eat a meal before arriving. The next time that there will be an official break time to eat will be upon arrival at Allatoona at 5:30 when students will eat dinner. The band boosters will provide Subway sandwiches for dinner. All students, staff and volunteers were emailed a Google Doc to choose their sandwich type. If you did not respond to this request, you will get a turkey sandwich that day. The gates will open at 6:00 p.m., and we highly encourage families and other band supporters to attend this event. Please realize that this is a small competition with only five bands competing. Then, Allatoona’s band will perform followed by the University of West Georgia band. It is truly incredible to view the talent displayed by these bands. So, come on out to not only support our Mighty Marching Knights but also several other bands from around the state. For more information on the competition, click here. Once again, the Mighty Marching Knights proudly represented Centennial High School on Friday night when the Band hosted 8th grade band members from Holcomb Bridge and Haynes Bridge Middle Schools. Our high school students assisted these 8th graders first while rehearsing in the band room and then while playing the National Anthem and stand tunes. The unity of these band students from all three schools always creates an infectious band spirit. Video coming soon under the About Us tab of the half time show. A very special thanks to Becky Loedding for organizing 8th Grade Knight! Also, many thanks to all of the parents who volunteered. This event requires many more helping hands than a normal football game and we greatly appreciate your efforts! “LEGACY OF CHAMPIONS” MARCHING BAND COMPETITION The Mighty Marching Knights definitely had a busy and exciting weekend! After the victory over North Atlanta HS paired with 8th Grade Knight on Friday night, the excitement continued on Saturday when the Band competed at the Carrollton HS “Legacy of Champions” Marching Band Competition in the AAA Silver Division. We are proud of our Band for receiving an overall score of Excellent with scores of 2 (Excellent) in these categories: Color Guard, Percussion and Band. Congratulations to our Drum Majors for their score of 1 (Superior)! Many thanks to the parents who volunteered by giving their all late into the night! Join the football team and band next Friday, October 20th, at home vs. Dunwoody HS. This game will also be Senior Knight when all marching band, football, cheer and other Fall sports seniors will be honored. We congratulate our victorious football team on its win over Northview this past Friday night, as the marching band cheered them on with spirited stand tunes. Neither school’s band performed their half time shows, but there was no lack of entertainment and spirit due to the dueling drum lines. The CHS percussionists definitely showed their might! At this game the band will host 8th graders from Holcomb Bridge and Haynes Bridge Middle Schools for 8th Grade Knight (details below). On Saturday, October 14th, the marching band will also compete in the first competition of the season, “Legacy of Champions”, at Carrollton H.S. (details below).
